About Caden

With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure. The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses. In Duffield, volunteers are raising funds for COTA in honor of transplant patients like local boy, Caden Gilbert.

Caden is the son of Candi and Chris Gilbert. Caden was born May 7, 2010. Sadly in August 2015, Caden contracted ecoli shiga toxin that lead to Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). This lead to end stage renal failure. He has now been on dialysis for 2 years and the doctors at University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville have recommended a life-saving kidney transplant. Transplant is set to take place June 8, 2017. Caden will be receiving a kidney from his dad, Chris. An estimated $50,000 is being raised by Duffield volunteers. The family has created a facebook page for caden clay to post updates from his appointments and how he is doing, you can access this page by going to, https://www.facebook.com/Prayforcadenclay/
